BITEF Festival
» Belgrade, September 2009 «

BitefFounded in 1967, BITEF (Belgrade International Theater Festival) has continually followed and supported the latest theater trends. Growing and developing, it has become one of five most important and biggest European festivals and has, as such, secured itself an unmistakable place at the theater map of the world. It has become one of the most significant culture institutions of our country, but also much more than that. The importance of BITEF surpasses all political and cultural borders. For this reason we can identify the history of BITEF with a history of contemporary theater.

» 03.10-17.10.2008 «

BEMUS 09Belgrade Music Festival (Bemus) is the country's oldest and the most significant festival of classical music which always takes place in the first half of October. Under the patronage of its founder, the City Assembly of Belgrade, over the last 38 years some of the world's most prominent artists have performed at Bemus' concert venues: the philharmonic orchestras of Vienna , Los Angeles , Berlin , St. Petersburg and Munich, Academy of St Martin in-the-fields, Cremerata Baltica and Gidon Kremer, Il Giardino Armonico, Kronos Quartet, artists like Herbert von Karajan and Zubin Mehta, Mstislav Rostropovich and Misha Maysky, Sviatoslav Richter and Martha Argerich, Yehudi Menuhin and Maxim Vengerov...

Together with the great names of the international music scene, Bemus has hosted the most respected national artists (soloist s and ensembles), giving the local art an equal place in the rich heritage of the world's music. Many significant pieces of all forms and genres have been premiered at Bemus, and commissioned pieces proved to be stimulating for the creativity of composers acting in the country.

In addition to the presentation of renowned artists, Bemus opens its doors to the young musicians who are starting their professional international careers. A considerable attention is given to the exclusive stage productions (operas and ballets), often marked by an alternative artistic approach, which is particularly appealing to the younger generation of artists. This break over towards other arts enables Bemus to communicate successfully with the wide audience of diverse profiles.
